About Cryosthetics

Following consultation and examination of your skin, you will be advised on the most effective treatment plan. Several lesions can be treated safely in one session including blemishes on the body, face, eyelids, hands and intimate areas.

Cryo pen is the medical, non-surgical removal of skin lesions using extreme cold. Unwanted tissue is painlessly and safely destroyed, eliminating benign and superficial lesions on the surface of the skin.

What it’s used for

We can tackle small imperfections such as:

  • NMoles (must have seen a Dr and be signed off as benign)
  • NSkin tags
  • NDark, hyperpigmented imperfections or freckles
  • NSolar lentigo (Age spots, sun spots, liver spots)
  • NSeborrheic Keratosis/warts
  • NFibrous papule
  • NMilia
  • NWarts
  • NKeloids
  • NCherry angioma
  • NHaemangioma
  • NViral verrucae
  • NSkin lesions on intimate areas- anal, scrotal, vaginal, labial skin tags. Pearly penile papules, genital warts. For many patients, skin lesions and conditions in an intimate area can cause anxiety, embarrassment and have a significant impact on body confidence. Our service offers patients the option to remove intimate skin lesions, many of which cannot be treated under NHS care as they are deemed ‘cosmetic concerns’.

Does Cryopen hurt?

As the nitrous oxide hits the skin there may be a slight stinging sensation similar to how a nettle may feel.

How long does the treatment take?

Procedures typically last from 5 to 30 seconds per lesion, so you can be in and out of the treatment room quickly, although with check-in/out, preparation and treatment time around half an hour should be allowed to cover your visit. During any 1 session a maximum of 5 lesions can be treated.

How many treatments will I need?

A lesion can take up to 6 weeks to fade away. Clinical data shows that the results are permanent after just one session. Some types of skin lesions may return in other places if you are prone to them. Some lesions need more than one session.

What happens after treatment?

In the days following treatment with the CryoPen™, the treated skin lesion may become darker and will begin to crust. As your skin heals the damaged skin sloughs off allowing new skin to appear. It is advised to keep the region exposed but out of direct sunlight.

Over the next 1-6 weeks the lesion will shrink and flake away. Healing time varies from patient to patient and is largely dependent on the skin type and the skin lesion that has been treated.

After primary healing occurs, the area will be lighter than the surrounding area due to loss of melanin, skin will return to its normal colour after a few weeks.

A follow-up appointment will be scheduled for 4-6 weeks following your treatment to review the results of the Cryotherapy and assess whether a further treatment as required.

Will there be scarring?

Typically, cryotherapy causes the least damage to tissue so leaves the least amount of scarring of any form of lesion removal. The area of skin treated will appear lighter than the surrounding skin which usually darkens with new tanning.

Are there Any Side Effects?

There can be a slight residual stinging after treatment which should subside after around 10 minutes. As the natural body defence is to release histamine to the treated area it can become slightly raised similar to a nettle sting or insect bite and feel itchy for a short time.

Is Cryopen safe?

Cryotherapy is a relatively low risk treatment. There are a few side effects that may occur as a result of treatment, including pigmentation changes (hypo-pigmentation and hyper-pigmentation) which is why you are advised to avoid direct sunlight on the area. If pigmentation happens, skin colour normally returns after a few months. As the treated area is usually quite small the pigmentation is far less noticeable than the original blemish.
