Electrolysis and Diathermy
About Electrolysis and Diathermy
Advanced Electrolysis is a tried and tested method for the treatment of thread veins. Blemish removal treatment using Electrolysis works by placing a very small, hot, sterile needle on the skin over the thread vein, the current heats up the broken veins and causes them to cauterise. This process is called Diathermy.
Sterex is world renowned as the brand that electrologists know, use and trust for electrolysis and diathermy.
Vascular Blemishes we can treat using Sterex
Facial thread veins
Thread veins go by the medical term Telangiectasia. This occurs when small veins become enlarged close to the surface of the skin. They are extremely common and although not dangerous, can be cosmetically distressing.
Campbell de Morgan
Large blood spots on the body, head and scalp. While they may be annoying to live with, they are a completely harmless vascular blemish that can easily be removed with diathermy.
Cherry Angioma
Small blood spots that are benign vascular blemishes. They can vary in size from small pin dots to as large as a penny. Cherry angioma are not painful but may bleed when scratched and can become upsetting when they are in areas that are difficult to cover.
More about facial spider veins
Facial spider veins appear as fine red or blue lines. They are small broken veins and blood vessels which lie just under the surface of the skin. These veins often form in clusters which can cover significant surface areas of the skin. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes and can appear anywhere on the body but often on the face. Thread veins are often more visible on the face because the skin on areas such as the nose, cheeks and chin is much thinner than on other areas of the body. The faces increased exposure to the causes of Thread Veins, like the sun, makes it the most common area to suffer spider veins.
Facial thread veins can exacerbate the signs of Rosacea. They can also be brought on by injury to the skin, age, illness, weight gain and hormonal changes including pregnancy, puberty and menopause. These facial thread veins are very rarely a cause for concern, however if associated with rosacea, they can be itchy and make the skin feel sensitive.
Preventing and managing facial thread veins involves a combination of lifestyle adjustments and, in some cases, professional interventions. Adopting sun protection measures, such as wearing sunscreen and limiting sun exposure, can significantly reduce the risk of thread veins caused by UV damage. Additionally, maintaining a healthy lifestyle that includes regular exercise, stress management, and a balanced diet contributes to overall skin health and resilience.
How many treatments will you need?
It depends on how many veins or blood spots you have and how severe they are.
One treatment can sometimes be enough to get rid of a single vein or blood spot. However if you have a cluster of spider veins on your nose then expect to need more than that. It’s common to require 2-4 sessions.
How much will it cost?
A single session is £40 (per 15 minutes) A tailored plan and quotation will be given at consultation
Will your spider veins be gone for good?
You should get a long term improvement which can last years. It really depends on what has caused your spider veins to come in the first place. If you are a smoker or a drinker, then it’s likely they’ll come back quicker, as these lifestyle factors can cause them.
REQUIRED TREATMENT
Small, superfivial veins are easy to remove and you can expect them to disappear after just one treatment.
More significant veins may need more treatment you can expect to see a 70-100% improvement in their appearance. This can be impacted by your age, lifestyle and treatment tolerance.
Does it hurt?
It’s nothing to be worried about. The sensation is like hot pin pricks – so not pain free but not unbearable. Most treatments are very fast so it will all be over before you even have time to react.
Post Treatment
After treatment, your skin may be temporarily red, swollen and tender. Side effects of electrolysis are mild but may include blisters, scabs and some dryness .
For 24 hours after treatment, keep the skin clean, dry, and free of makeup. You will apply an antiseptic cream for two or three days to help heal and soothe the area.
An SPF cover is important as you will also need to avoid heat from the sun, saunas, steam rooms, hot yoga, or hot baths or showers. You should also avoid activities that stimulate blood flow for 48 hours.
Do not touch the treated area with your hands unless they’ve been thoroughly cleaned. You should also refrain from picking or rubbing any scabs that may appear, as this can increase the risk of scarring or an unsuccessful treatment. let the scabs fall off on their own.
For 24 hours, avoid applying soap, perfumed products, makeup, or skincare products to the treated area. You should also avoid using products that contain AHA’s or exfoliating products while the area is healing
